Posted on 8/22/2022 by Dr. Dani Stansell
How do you recover from gum disease?Gum disease is a condition that destroys the gum and the jawbone. The condition can be treated either surgically or non-surgical. Some non-surgical treatments which can help one in recovering from periodontitis are.

Dental cleaning

During a normal check-up with the dentist, dental cleaning done by a professional can get rid of the tartar and plaque. The plaque hardens the surface. The type of mouthwash is important to be considered when cleaning the teeth. Some mouthwash offers fresh breath and offers an anti-cavity benefit and prevents help gum disease; the type of mouth wash should get rid of germs and bacteria. The toothpaste used should match with the mouth wash to help prevent gum diseases.

Scaling and root planning

Scaling and root planning are recommended when bones, surrounding tissue, and gum diseases destroy gums; it restores oral health and curbs other gum diseases. Scaling and root planning where cleaning is done under local anesthesia where the tartar and plaque are removed, roots are smoothened where the rough surfaces remove germs and bacteria. Gum diseases can also be treated through surgical procedures.

Bone grafting and flap surgery

Tissue engineering allows the body to regenerate tissue and bone at a higher rate. Bone grafting uses donated bone, synthetic bone, or fragments of bone to replace bone disease. Soft tissue graft filling where gums are thin adds tissue to the area affected—guided tissue regeneration where fabric is inserted between the gum tissue and the bone jaw. Flap surgery is where the gums are lifted, the tartar is removed, and the gums are placed so that the tissue fits around the tooth, reducing space between the gum and the tooth.
