These Things Could Be Causing Your Gums To Bleed

These Things Could Be Causing Your Gums To BleedIf you notice that your gums are bleeding, you need to find out what is causing the issue. Gum bleeding is not normal apart from known causes such as trauma from accidents or when you brush your teeth too hard. It is prudent you understand the cause of bleeding in the gums. Here are some culprits for gum bleeding.

Improper Brushing and Flossing

Doing gentle brushing and using soft bristle toothbrushes ensures minimal chances of hurting your gums to the point of bleeding. Brushing your teeth very hard does not improve the cleanliness level, it only destroys the teeth' enamel and bruises your gum.

Pregnancy

Carrying a child in the womb comes with a lot of hormone changes in the bodies of women. Most women will experience swollen and tender gum during brushing because of these alterations in their body system. Maintain good oral hygiene to avoid gum bleeding while pregnant.

Wearing Loose or Dentures that Don't Fit Well

Dentures will scratch your gums and bruise them if they do not fit in your mouth well. This may trigger bleeding in your gums. If you do not rectify your dentures, the problem may continue, resulting in more harm. Remember also to clean the restorations adequately when not using them to combat the build-up of plaque.

Gum Disease

When there is a lot of biofilm building up along the gum line, you will end up having bleeding gums. Plaque causes gingivitis that makes gums get swollen and tender. If not treated, gingivitis progresses to severe cases of gum disease.

Underlying Health Conditions

Some health conditions that you may be having can bring about gum bleeding. Patients with conditions like leukemia, diabetes, or liver disease are prone to gum bleeding.
