Full and Partial Dentures

Posted on 10/25/2021 by Dr. Dani Stansell
Full and Partial DenturesFull or partial dental replacements are two kinds of removable dentures. Depending on the needs of each patient, we may use either to replace just some missing teeth or arches or an entire natural denture.

Partial Dentures Benefits

We use partial dentures to replace several teeth, but not all of the teeth in the mouth. Acrylic resins are the most common material to make them, and some models have metal parts, which allow them to grip to the teeth with ease. Patients mostly use them provisionally until they complete their treatment of dental implants, dental crowns, or dental bridges.

Its main advantage is that they replace lost teeth to improve the functionality and appearance of a smile. They are also easy to maintain, in addition to being easy to repair in case of a possible breakage. If a patient loses an adjacent tooth, it is possible to adapt a new prosthetic replacement to a partial denture as well.

Complete Dentures Benefits

The materials of the complete dentures are a pink resin or acrylic base, simulating the color of the gum. The artificial teeth are also made of resin or porcelain. We craft complete dentures with hard resin so they can have greater durability.

Their function is almost the same as that of partial dentures, with the difference being that complete dentures cover more space. Depending on the necessities of a patient, the denture may replace the entire upper arch of teeth, the lower one, or both. They are easy to care for, and they are highly durable as well.

To determine which type of denture would suit you better, we need to take into account the current situation of your mouth. If you are missing just a couple teeth, it may be enough with a partial denture; although patients who are almost completely endentulous may benefit from a complete denture.
