Why Diet Plays A Larger Role Than Brushing In Dental HealthDid you know that what you eat and drink or don't eat and drink has a more significant impact on your teeth than brushing does? Brushing is essential for sure, but it's far from the only thing that matters. If your diet consists of lots of acidic foods like soda or citrus fruits, you are likely to have weaker teeth enamel over time. It's not just because these kinds of food are full of sugar either - there are other factors at play here! So read on to learn more about how what you put in your mouth can affect your dental health. 

The importance of diet for strong teeth


The food we consume plays a significant role in the health of our teeth. Sugar molecules cause bacteria on tooth surfaces (plaque) to produce acids that eat away at enamel- the protective coating on your teeth. If this continues long enough, you will develop cavities. This means we must eat less food that contains these sugars while brushing regularly helps avoid further damage by removing these bacteria from your mouth before they have time to do any more harm! However, someone who focuses on eating healthy foods and having a balanced diet with little to no added sugars and starches is likely to have healthier teeth overall.

In addition, eating nutrient-rich foods will keep your body healthy in general- and this includes keeping your smile strong! By getting enough vitamin C from fruit like strawberries and oranges, you'll strengthen the gums around the roots of your teeth, so they stay firm and less vulnerable to breaking off. Calcium helps build stronger bones that support our entire skeletal system, including those holding up our pearly whites. It's essential to get enough of this mineral in our diets- which can be done by eating leafy greens like spinach, kale, and broccoli!
