What are Some of the Common Dental Disease?

Posted on 4/25/2022 by Dr. Dani Stansell
What are Some of the Common Dental Disease? Many things can compromise your teeth, from the foods we eat to certain beverages. That's why it's essential to regularly visit the dentist to ensure that signs of deterioration are detected and treated in time. If these signs are not addressed, they can lead to several dental conditions that affect your oral health. Some of the common dental diseases' patients should be aware of include:

Destruction of Your Tooth Enamel

If you have a poor dental hygiene routine, plaque and tartar are likely to buildup producing acid that destroys the tooth's enamel. The bacteria responsible for this deterioration thrive in a diet consisting of starches and sugary sweets, and that's why patients are advised to eat healthily and brush their teeth after every meal. Failure to treat a decayed tooth can lead to further abscesses or infections. A dentist can recommend filling, root canals, dental crowns, or extraction, depending on the severity of the damage.

Tooth Root Infection

Infections are caused by several factors, from cavities and traumas to cracks and chips. When the root of a tooth is full of bacteria, it can quickly become infected, damaging the pulp and nerves of the tooth. The only treatment for root infection is a root canal treatment done by a dental expert. The dentist will apply a local anesthetic before the procedure starts to help you feel at ease and comfortable.

Gingivitis

This is a gum disease referred to as periodontal disease. It usually manifests itself from an infection in the soft tissue surrounding the tooth and can lead to loss of the tooth in adults. Studies have also shown that this condition is linked to other medical complications such as premature labor and heart disease. If you detect redness, bleeding or soreness regularly, you need to schedule an appointment with a dentist as soon as possible.
