Can chewing gum prevent cavities

Posted on 6/6/2022 by Dr. Dani Stansell
Can chewing gum prevent cavitiesSince children are mostly affiliated with sugary substances, they are more liable to cavities than adults. Their teeth are also vulnerable. A baby has 20 primary teeth at birth, some of which are fully developed in the jaw. For kids who have started getting teeth, an infant toothbrush is advised—done using water and a bit of fluoride toothpaste the size of a grain of rice. A clean, damp washcloth is run over the gums for the little choppers to clear away harmful bacteria.

Symptoms of cavities and severe levels that a person can know they are infected include; bleeding gums after brushing, red swollen gums, persistent bad breath, a bad taste in the mouth, receding gums, formation of deep pockets between teeth and gums, loose teeth, and change in the way teeth fit together upon biting down.

Treatment of cavities

When cavities are sighted, one should have gone through a dental examination for the dentist to identify any gum disease. The goal of our institution in gum disease is to promote reattachment of healthy gums to teeth, reduce swelling, depth of pockets, and the risk of infection, and stop disease progression.

We offer treatment according to the stages of the disease and the way you may have responded to earlier treatments, and your overall health. Options range from nonsurgical therapies that control bacterial growth to surgery to restore supportive tissues.

Nonsurgical services offered for gum disease are professional dental clinic, scaling, and root planting. Surgical services also provided for this disease are flap surgery/pocket reduction surgery, bone grafts using fragments of bones from the patient or another source, soft tissue grafts, guided tissue regeneration, and bone surgery to some medications. Some medications can affect oral health since some lessen the flow of saliva, which helps protect gums and teeth. Antibiotics are also available for patients with cavities.
