Can I Do A Teeth Whitening Procedure After a Dental Implants?

Posted on 9/5/2022 by Dr. Dani Stansell
Can I Do A Teeth Whitening Procedure After a Dental Implants?Dental implants are appliances that correct dental issues such as tooth decay or trauma. Mostly they are attached to the enamel surface of the teeth through surgical intervention by a regular dentist.

Most dental implants are ceramic or porcelain in nature. However, the dentist will guide and approve teeth whitening based on recovery after a dental implant operation.

Many teeth whitening treatments rarely are done on the implants. However, in many scenarios, the dentist replaces the discolored and stained crowns to maintain the color of the implants and the natural teeth.

Discoloration of the natural teeth occurs due to many factors, such as tooth erosion due to trauma and accidents, which cause the dentin to change to a yellow color. Also, tooth decay can cause stains within the teeth. Furthermore, eating colored foods, taking beverages such as coffee and tea regularly, and tobacco products can affect the implants and cause discoloration.

What Can Damage and Stain Dental Implants?

Regularly consume acidic food containing tannins and alcohol as well as caffeinated beverages such as coffee and black tea. Also, using abrasive toothpaste causes the dental implant's surface to wear out. In addition, failure to follow proper dental care routine and habits causes developed stains on the dental implants.

How to Keep Dental Implants Free From Stains

The patient should adopt proper dental hygiene practices such as brushing and flossing the teeth at least twice daily. In addition to brushing, the individual should avoid hard-brushing that causes erosion of the implant. Also, avoid using alcoholic mouthwashes and abrasive toothpaste that may stain the implant.

In conclusion, teeth whitening has minimal chances, especially after a dental implant operation; therefore, to prevent staining and discoloration of the implant and the teeth, individuals should follow a proper dental care routine and adopt good dental habits that maintain the natural color of the teeth.
