CEREC® Same-Day Crowns in North Raleigh

A close-up view of a machine milling a dental crown from a ceramic block for same-day restoration. When a tooth needs a crown, the traditional process means two separate appointments, a temporary restoration, and a two-week wait while an outside lab fabricates the final piece — CEREC® technology at our North Raleigh office eliminates every one of those steps. Using an in-office digital scanner, chairside design software, and a precision milling unit, the team at Stansell Dentistry Associates creates your permanent ceramic crown from start to finish in a single visit. Most appointments take roughly two hours, and you leave with a fully bonded, custom-fit restoration the same day.

Our North Raleigh location at 1911 Falls Valley Drive off Falls of Neuse Road serves patients from throughout the northern Raleigh area, Wake Forest, Rolesville, and surrounding neighborhoods. For an in-depth look at how CEREC® technology compares to traditional lab-fabricated crowns, visit our main CEREC® same-day crowns page.

Who Needs a CEREC® Crown?

A dental crown is a full-coverage restoration that fits over a damaged or weakened tooth, restoring its shape, strength, and function. Your dentist may recommend a CEREC® crown when a tooth has sustained damage that a standard filling can no longer support. Common situations include teeth that are cracked, heavily decayed, worn down from grinding, or structurally compromised after a root canal procedure.

Crowns also play a role in completing other restorative treatments. A tooth restored with a dental implant receives a crown as its visible, functional surface. Patients who have large, aging fillings that are starting to fracture often benefit from transitioning to a full-coverage crown before additional damage occurs. Because CEREC® crowns are milled from all-ceramic material, they are especially well-suited for teeth in the visible smile zone where aesthetics matter most.

Not every crown situation requires CEREC®. Cases involving multiple adjacent teeth that need highly customized layering, or restorations requiring specialized materials, may benefit from a traditional lab-fabricated approach. Your dentist evaluates your specific needs during the consultation and recommends whichever method produces the best result.

Your North Raleigh Dental Team

Our North Raleigh dental team takes a thorough, technology-driven approach to every CEREC® case. Before any preparation begins, your dentist uses digital x-rays and an intraoral camera to assess the tooth’s internal structure, root health, and surrounding bone support. These diagnostic images help determine whether a same-day crown is the right fit or whether additional treatment — such as a core buildup or periodontal therapy — should be addressed first.

Having the complete CEREC® system on-site means the dentist who prepares your tooth is the same person who designs, mills, and bonds the crown. There is no handoff to an outside technician and no opportunity for information to be lost in translation. This closed-loop approach gives our team direct control over fit, shade, and contour from the first scan to the final polish.

The Same-Day Crown Process at North Raleigh

The CEREC® workflow condenses what traditionally takes two appointments and two weeks into a single visit. Here is how each phase unfolds at our North Raleigh office:

A dental crown placed on a prepared molar tooth in the gums, demonstrating a restorative dental procedure.Your dentist begins by numbing the treatment area and carefully removing any decay or damaged material. The remaining tooth structure is then shaped to create a stable foundation for the crown. Once the tooth is prepared, a handheld intraoral scanner captures a detailed 3D digital impression — a quick, comfortable process that replaces the traditional putty trays most patients prefer to avoid.

The digital scan feeds directly into the CEREC® design software displayed on a chairside monitor. Your dentist uses the software to model the crown’s exact shape, adjusting the height, contours, and contact points until the design matches your natural bite. The file is then sent to the in-office milling unit, which carves the crown from a solid block of dental-grade ceramic in approximately 10 to 15 minutes.

After milling, the crown is shade-matched, polished, and tried in for fit. Your dentist checks the bite from multiple angles and makes any fine adjustments before permanently bonding the restoration. A final polish completes the appointment, and you walk out with a fully functional, permanent crown in place.

Benefits of CEREC® Crowns

Patients at our North Raleigh location choose CEREC® for a combination of practical convenience and clinical quality:

  • Single-Visit Convenience — Preparation, digital scanning, crown design, milling, and bonding all happen in one appointment. There is no second visit, no waiting period, and no disruption to your schedule.

  • No Temporary Crown — The temporary restorations used in traditional crown procedures can crack, loosen, or cause sensitivity during the weeks you wait for the permanent crown. CEREC® eliminates that entire phase.

  • Digital Precision — The intraoral scanner and design software produce a level of accuracy that often surpasses conventional putty impressions. This translates to a crown with a more consistent fit and fewer post-placement adjustments.

  • Natural Appearance — CEREC® crowns are milled from all-ceramic material that replicates the translucency and shade of natural enamel. There is no metal substructure, so the crown blends seamlessly with your surrounding teeth.

  • Proven Durability — The dental-grade ceramic used in CEREC® restorations is designed to withstand normal biting and chewing forces over the long term. With proper care, these crowns perform comparably to traditional lab-fabricated restorations.

Why Choose Our North Raleigh Office for CEREC® Crowns

Our North Raleigh office pairs the CEREC® system with a full suite of advanced diagnostic tools — digital x-rays, intraoral cameras, and a soft tissue laser — that give your dentist a comprehensive view of every case before treatment begins. This layered approach is especially valuable for crowns placed on teeth with complex histories, such as those that have undergone restorative dentistry procedures or have existing large fillings.

Scheduling flexibility is another advantage of this location. Our North Raleigh office offers extended hours on Mondays until 6:30 PM and opens early on Thursdays at 7:30 AM, making it easier to fit a same-day crown appointment into a workweek. Because the entire CEREC® process is completed in a single visit, you use one block of time rather than two.

Stansell Dentistry Associates also ensures the experience itself is comfortable. Our North Raleigh office features in-chair entertainment, blankets, warm towels, and a coffee and beverage bar. For patients who feel anxious about dental procedures, our team discusses comfort options before treatment begins so you feel at ease throughout your appointment.

CEREC® Crown Cost & Insurance in North Raleigh

CEREC® crowns are billed under the same procedure code as traditional crowns, so most dental insurance plans cover them at the same rate. Coverage typically falls under the major restorative category, and the amount your plan covers depends on your specific benefits and any remaining annual maximum.

The total cost of a CEREC® crown varies based on the tooth’s location, the extent of preparation needed, and whether supplemental procedures such as a core buildup are part of the treatment plan. Our North Raleigh team provides a detailed cost estimate and verifies your insurance benefits before any work begins, so there are no surprises.

We accept MetLife, BCBS, Delta Dental, Ameritas, United Concordia, Aetna, United Healthcare, and Cigna, and we file all other insurance plans as a courtesy. Sunbit pay-over-time financing and CareCredit are available for patients who prefer to spread out-of-pocket costs over monthly payments. Uninsured patients can take advantage of our in-house membership plans, which include discounted rates on restorative services. Visit our financial and insurance page for full details, or call (984) 206-4242 for a personalized estimate.

Frequently Asked Questions About CEREC® Crowns in North Raleigh

Can I eat normally right after getting a CEREC® crown?

Yes. Because the CEREC crown is permanently bonded at the end of your appointment, you can eat as soon as the local anesthetic wears off. There is no temporary restoration to worry about protecting. It is still a good idea to start with softer foods for the first day or so while you adjust to the feel of the new crown, and to avoid extremely hard or sticky items for the first 24 hours while the bonding cement fully cures.

How does my dentist match the color of a CEREC® crown?

Your dentist selects a ceramic block that closely matches the shade of your natural teeth before the milling process begins. CEREC ceramic comes in a range of colors and translucencies designed to replicate the way natural enamel reflects light. After milling, the crown can be further customized with surface staining and glazing to fine-tune the shade before it is bonded in place. The result is a restoration that blends naturally with the surrounding teeth.

How do I know whether I need a crown or a filling?

A filling works well for small to moderate areas of decay where enough healthy tooth structure remains to support the restoration. When the damage is too extensive for a filling to hold reliably, or when the tooth is cracked or weakened, a full-coverage crown provides the structural reinforcement the tooth needs. Your dentist examines the tooth with digital x-rays and an intraoral camera to determine which restoration will offer the best long-term outcome.

Can I get more than one CEREC® crown in the same appointment?

In many cases, yes. The CEREC system can scan and design multiple crowns during the same visit, and the milling unit produces each crown individually. The total appointment time increases with each additional crown, but patients who need two or three restorations can often complete them in a single extended visit rather than scheduling multiple appointments over several weeks.

Are CEREC® crowns a good option for front teeth?

CEREC crowns are an excellent choice for front teeth because they are milled from all-ceramic material with no metal core. This means the crown has the same translucency and light-reflecting properties as natural enamel, which is especially important for teeth that are visible when you smile. Your dentist can fine-tune the shade and surface texture during the design phase to ensure the crown blends seamlessly with your adjacent teeth.
